TOUCH FOOT­BALL

A TOUCH foot­ball pro­gram for ju­niors will kick off in two weeks at the Whit­sun­day Sports Park.

The inau­gu­ral Whit­sun­day ju­nior touch pro­gram will kick off on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 14 and will run through till a break-up night on the fi­nal Mon­day of the term.

Whit­sun­day Touch As­so­ci­a­tion (WTA) rep­re­sen­ta­tive Justin But­ler said the sport is great for hand eye co-or­di­na­tion and ball skills and an es­tab­lished rep­re­sen­ta­tive path­way for those in­ter­ested.

“Touch is a safe, non-con­tact sport for boys and girls and they will play on small fields with a tar­geted child to coach ra­tio of no more than six to one,” he said.

The pro­gram is $50 per player, to cover sports park fees and Touch Foot­ball Aus­tralia af­fil­i­a­tion, fees and in­sur­ance.

Age brack­ets in­clude un­der-8 (grades prep, one and two), un­der-10 (grades three and four), un­der-12 (grades five and six) and un­der-14 (grades seven and eight).

It will start at 5pm ev­ery Mon­day night and fin­ishes at 6pm with a sausage siz­zle and can­teen avail­able ev­ery week.

The sign on night is Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 14 from 4.30pm.

WTA will pro­vide sup­port and train­ing to coaches of each age group with planned ses­sions each week com­pris­ing warm up, drills and skills prac­tice and then a game.
