Junior touch to start
A TOUCH football program for juniors will kick off in two weeks at the Whitsunday Sports Park.
The inaugural Whitsunday junior touch program will kick off on Monday, October 14 and will run through till a break-up night on the final Monday of the term.
Whitsunday Touch Association (WTA) representative Justin Butler said the sport is great for hand eye co-ordination and ball skills and an established representative pathway for those interested.
“Touch is a safe, non-contact sport for boys and girls and they will play on small fields with a targeted child to coach ratio of no more than six to one,” he said.
The program is $50 per player, to cover sports park fees and Touch Football Australia affiliation, fees and insurance.
Age brackets include under-8 (grades prep, one and two), under-10 (grades three and four), under-12 (grades five and six) and under-14 (grades seven and eight).
It will start at 5pm every Monday night and finishes at 6pm with a sausage sizzle and canteen available every week.
The sign on night is Monday, October 14 from 4.30pm.
Parents or anyone interested in helping coach an age group or man the canteen are asked to contact Justin Butler on 0418 622 224 or Mark Beale on 0404 498 790.
