Airlie busy for holidays

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

TOURISM operators in the Whitsundays have reported the best September school holidays in four years, according to Whitsundays Marketing and Development Ltd (WMDL) CEO Danial Rochford.

Mr Rochford said elements such as this year’s state school holidays coinciding, combined with terrific weather and a renewed confidence in the region, all aligned “and that created a really positive vibe for the community”.

“Also, numbers for this week have been very positive, as well as growth in extra length of stay, which is also a positive,” Mr Rochford said.

“I think there’s a growing confidence in the Whitsundays, especially in our regional markets,” Mr Rochford said.

“We certainly saw a lot of Mackay and Townsville families holidaying here and again we’re getting feedback from operators that forward bookings for the next three months and into Christmas and the New Year are looking strong as well,” he said.

Mr Rochford said WMDL would not now rest on its laurels, but would actively market the region to build on this momentum and continue to create positive growth.
