2 day extension for schoolies event

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

SCHOOLIES in the Whitsundays will be a sevenday event this year, after Whitsunday Regional Council voted to endorse an agreement with the PCYC and schoolies.com for an additional two days of activities.

The Schoolies safety and activity program was originally scheduled to take place over five days from November 16-20, but it will now also incorporate events on November 21 and 22.

On Thursday, November 21, schoolies who are still in the area will be able to attend a ‘movies at the lagoon’ event from 6-10pm and on Friday, November 22 the PCYC will host a neon glow party from 8pm until midnight.

Whitsunday mayor Jennifer Whitney said due to accommodation deals, many schoolies came to the region for seven days and were previously left without structured activities for two of those days.

“The police have worked very closely with the groups and there’ll be two more nightly activities to help this,” she said. The purpose of Schoolies is to provide safe, structured activities for the large numbers of school leavers who come to the region to celebrate each year.
