Play­ers pre­pare for mixed pairs cham­pi­onships

PLAY­ERS en­joyed com­pet­ing in per­fect con­di­tions at the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club this week.

The ladies en­joyed a one day car­ni­val, spon­sored by BDO Pri­vate Wealth Ad­vis­ers from Bris­bane last Tues­day.

All games were en­joyed by the play­ers and win­ners were Ma­ree Daf­fara's team from Proser­pine with Claire Wil­son’s team from South Sub­ur­ban fin­ish­ing sec­ond and Enid Maltby’s team from Wan­garatta in third place.

Thanks go to the teams that sup­ported the car­ni­val and or­gan­is­ers look for­ward to strong num­bers re­turn­ing next year.

The men had some very close games on Wed­nes­day last week and the win­ners for the day were Nik Fern­bach, Jeff Newman and Eric Bot­tle 23-20 and Keith Beetham, Jim Cairns and Ron Spence 21-15.

The Wed­nes­day jack­pot was not won again and is now val­ued at more than $400.

Busi­ness House Bowls kicked off yes­ter­day at 6.30pm.

En­try to this weekly com­pe­ti­tion costs $15 per per­son, in­clud­ing a game and din­ner and all in­ter­ested play­ers should con­tact Paul Os­borne on 0409 891 564 or Brian De­laney on 0408 418 554.

This is a great so­cial event and a good in­tro­duc­tion to the game of bowls.

Fri­day night bare­foot bowls will again be open for busi­ness this weekend.

Play­ers can reg­is­ter their teams by con­tact­ing 0488 754 184 or come along for a re­lax­ing evening shared with friends.

Bare­foot bowls costs $15 for bowls and a sausage siz­zle.

Sun­day af­ter­noon so­cial bowls was well at­tended and all games were very com­pet­i­tive

Win­ners for the day were W Gray, D Hell and C Howes who de­feated M Davy, D White­house and S Tat­tam 17-7.

In other games M Barnard, R Spence and M Stan­ley de­feated R White­house, E Bot­tle and D Dias 15–10 and M Heeney, K Beetham and J Howes de­feated H Tat­tam, N Fern­bach and J Spencer 14-10.

Some im­por­tant events com­ing up is the cruise car­ni­val spon­sored by Cruise Whit­sun­day on Satur­day, Novem­ber 9.

This is a mixed triples event and play­ers must reg­is­ter early as only the first 16 teams to en­ter will play.

The ladies AGM will be held on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 22 at 10.30am.

A mixed pairs com­pe­ti­tion will be held on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 31 at 6.30pm and play­ers can con­tact Kevin Jewell on 4945 3998 for more in­for­ma­tion.

This Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 12, the mixed pairs club cham­pi­onships will start at 9.30am.

David Dias and Betty Ni­colle will go up against Bob McMa­hon and Jo Howes with Rick Wil­liams and Sandy Bar­rile to play Eric Bot­tle and Dale Hell.

Steve and Hen­ney Tat­tam will face Jill Spencer and Nik Fern­bach and Kevin Jewell and Noela White­head will play Margo Stan­ley and Col Howes.

GOOD TECH­NIQUE: Doreen White­house com­peted in the so­cial bowls com­pe­ti­tion at the Air­lie Beach Bowl­ing Club on Sun­day.
