Players prepare for mixed pairs championships
PLAYERS enjoyed competing in perfect conditions at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club this week.
The ladies enjoyed a one day carnival, sponsored by BDO Private Wealth Advisers from Brisbane last Tuesday.
All games were enjoyed by the players and winners were Maree Daffara's team from Proserpine with Claire Wilson’s team from South Suburban finishing second and Enid Maltby’s team from Wangaratta in third place.
Thanks go to the teams that supported the carnival and organisers look forward to strong numbers returning next year.
The men had some very close games on Wednesday last week and the winners for the day were Nik Fernbach, Jeff Newman and Eric Bottle 23-20 and Keith Beetham, Jim Cairns and Ron Spence 21-15.
The Wednesday jackpot was not won again and is now valued at more than $400.
Business House Bowls kicked off yesterday at 6.30pm.
Entry to this weekly competition costs $15 per person, including a game and dinner and all interested players should contact Paul Osborne on 0409 891 564 or Brian Delaney on 0408 418 554.
This is a great social event and a good introduction to the game of bowls.
Friday night barefoot bowls will again be open for business this weekend.
Players can register their teams by contacting 0488 754 184 or come along for a relaxing evening shared with friends.
Barefoot bowls costs $15 for bowls and a sausage sizzle.
Sunday afternoon social bowls was well attended and all games were very competitive
Winners for the day were W Gray, D Hell and C Howes who defeated M Davy, D Whitehouse and S Tattam 17-7.
In other games M Barnard, R Spence and M Stanley defeated R Whitehouse, E Bottle and D Dias 15–10 and M Heeney, K Beetham and J Howes defeated H Tattam, N Fernbach and J Spencer 14-10.
Some important events coming up is the cruise carnival sponsored by Cruise Whitsunday on Saturday, November 9.
This is a mixed triples event and players must register early as only the first 16 teams to enter will play.

The ladies AGM will be held on Tuesday, October 22 at 10.30am.
A mixed pairs competition will be held on Thursday, October 31 at 6.30pm and players can contact Kevin Jewell on 4945 3998 for more information.
This Saturday, October 12, the mixed pairs club championships will start at 9.30am.
David Dias and Betty Nicolle will go up against Bob McMahon and Jo Howes with Rick Williams and Sandy Barrile to play Eric Bottle and Dale Hell.
Steve and Henney Tattam will face Jill Spencer and Nik Fernbach and Kevin Jewell and Noela Whitehead will play Margo Stanley and Col Howes.
