Numbers needed for volleyball comp
WHITSUNDAY residents have started rallying interested players and are calling for more to come forward in order to relaunch a mixed indoor volleyball competition at the Whitsunday PCYC.
Whitsunday PCYC branch support officer Tim Marshall welcomed the idea but said it would be up to community members to put their hand up to get the ball rolling.
“Last time it ran we didn’t have numbers and it belly flopped after the first two or three nights so we would need at least four teams of six a-side to make a decent competition out of it,” he said.
Mr Marshall said more than 20 people had registered their interest since July but asked for players to come forward once more to get a competition up and running within the next few weeks.
Cannonvale resident Michelle Pelzer posted a message on her personal Facebook page asking for interested people to come forward on September 29, and received confirmation from more than 10 local players who would like play in a weekly competition.
“I would like to see volleyball up and running again not only for the social aspect of it but also because a number of people have expressed that they don’t want to train in a gym and would prefer to be engaged in a team sport,” she said.
At this stage the competition could be held on either a Monday or Wednesday evening.
Players wanting to register their interest for volleyball and availability can do so by contacting the Whitsunday PCYC on 4948 1144.
