Brilliant results in monthly medal
THIRTY-SIX handicapper Mark Nicol managed to break 100 for the first time and come in with a brilliant nett 60 to take out the October monthly medal competition on the weekend, despite hitting three balls out of bounds on hole 12 during Saturday’s monthly medal and scoring 14 on the hole.
Had Nicol gone into the jackpot golf competition he would have romped in in the October pool with an incredible 52 stableford points.
Nicol took out the title with 61 other players vying for the second to last medal of the year.
A total of 54 men and eight women enjoyed competing in the ideal golfing conditions.
A grade winner for October was club captain Gavin Milne with a 68 nett, ahead of runnerup Lloyd Kingston on 71.
B grade went to Michael Cragg with 66 nett, four ahead of runner-up Richard McGrath on 70.
Runner-up to Mark in C grade was Scott Wardroper on 67 nett, and the ladies winner was Paula Wronski on count back from Mandy Patterson, both on 71 nett.
The rundown comprised Peter Krause on 69, new member Bob ‘the builder’ Bridger on 71, with David Gates, Pascal Neunreuther, Peter Smith, Bob Platt and Mark Conen all carding 72 nett.
Nearest-the-pins went to Larry Muller on hole 2, Pascal Neunreuther on 9, Paula Wronski on 13, and Michael Kavanagh on 16.
The two shot club was shared between Scott Wardroper who eagled on hole 10 and Ross Meade and Matt Bluck who both birdied on 16.
Fresh back from the regional finals of the Holden Scramble, club stalwart Rod Wecker dominated play in the Thursday competition to take out both the 9hole and 18-hole sections.
With a somewhat reduced field of only 42 players, Wecker took out the 18-hole section with a nett 63, and the 9-hole leg with 28.
Runner-up for the major event was Mark Conen who performed well to achieve a nett 65, and the rundown included David Gates who is also on a current high with 65, Peter Scrivens 66, Trevor Nosworthy 68, with John Grosskreutz, Gary Kaden and Lance Lloyd all carding 69 ahead on count back from two others.
Runner-up to Wecker in the 9hole section of the comp was Greg Walker with 29, Michael Kavanagh on 30, John Roser and Michael Ward with 31 each, and Rob Raiteri, Steve Mitchell and Peter Scrivens all coming in with 33.
Nearest-the-pins went to Greg Chalk on hole 2, Michael Kavanagh on 9, Steve New on 13, and Bob Bridger on 16.
The Ron Drew Memorial Day will be held at the Proserpine Golf Club this Saturday.
It will be a great, fun-filled day which many members and supporters look forward to each year.
Registration will be from 10am with a shotgun start at 11.
All players are asked to get their teams together for a great day of golf.
There will be food available and a drinks cart will be doing the rounds all day.
Thursday players will play a stableford competition over both 9 and 18-holes with tee times to suit individual players, but players must register at the pro shop to ensure smooth play.
Dawnies played their monthly mug competition with Dave Thomas being the winner on 57/41 from his wife Jaccy Thomas 68/ 41 after a chip off on Sunday.
Third place went to Mick Burrows 45/49, nearest-the-pins went to Tom Fleming on hole 9 and no one was able to claim hole 2.
Jaccy Thomas won the snake putter prize with a one putt, Tony Sellwood was the winner of least number of putts with 13 and Maurie Moody was the Bradman’s winner.
This Sunday, golf will be played on the back nine and players will be travelling to Pioneer Valley the following weekend on Sunday, October 20.
