Bril­liant re­sults in monthly medal

THIRTY-SIX hand­i­cap­per Mark Ni­col man­aged to break 100 for the first time and come in with a bril­liant nett 60 to take out the Oc­to­ber monthly medal com­pe­ti­tion on the weekend, de­spite hit­ting three balls out of bounds on hole 12 dur­ing Satur­day’s monthly medal and scor­ing 14 on the hole.

Had Ni­col gone into the jack­pot golf com­pe­ti­tion he would have romped in in the Oc­to­ber pool with an in­cred­i­ble 52 sta­ble­ford points.

Ni­col took out the ti­tle with 61 other play­ers vy­ing for the sec­ond to last medal of the year.

A to­tal of 54 men and eight women en­joyed com­pet­ing in the ideal golf­ing con­di­tions.

A grade win­ner for Oc­to­ber was club cap­tain Gavin Milne with a 68 nett, ahead of run­nerup Lloyd Kingston on 71.

B grade went to Michael Cragg with 66 nett, four ahead of run­ner-up Richard McGrath on 70.

Run­ner-up to Mark in C grade was Scott Wardroper on 67 nett, and the ladies win­ner was Paula Wron­ski on count back from Mandy Pat­ter­son, both on 71 nett.

The run­down com­prised Peter Krause on 69, new mem­ber Bob ‘the builder’ Bridger on 71, with David Gates, Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther, Peter Smith, Bob Platt and Mark Co­nen all card­ing 72 nett.

Near­est-the-pins went to Larry Muller on hole 2, Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther on 9, Paula Wron­ski on 13, and Michael Ka­vanagh on 16.

The two shot club was shared be­tween Scott Wardroper who ea­gled on hole 10 and Ross Meade and Matt Bluck who both birdied on 16.

Fresh back from the re­gional fi­nals of the Holden Scram­ble, club stal­wart Rod Wecker dom­i­nated play in the Thurs­day com­pe­ti­tion to take out both the 9hole and 18-hole sec­tions.

With a some­what re­duced field of only 42 play­ers, Wecker took out the 18-hole sec­tion with a nett 63, and the 9-hole leg with 28.

Run­ner-up for the ma­jor event was Mark Co­nen who per­formed well to achieve a nett 65, and the run­down in­cluded David Gates who is also on a cur­rent high with 65, Peter Scrivens 66, Trevor Nos­wor­thy 68, with John Grosskreutz, Gary Kaden and Lance Lloyd all card­ing 69 ahead on count back from two oth­ers.

Run­ner-up to Wecker in the 9hole sec­tion of the comp was Greg Walker with 29, Michael Ka­vanagh on 30, John Roser and Michael Ward with 31 each, and Rob Rai­teri, Steve Mitchell and Peter Scrivens all com­ing in with 33.

Near­est-the-pins went to Greg Chalk on hole 2, Michael Ka­vanagh on 9, Steve New on 13, and Bob Bridger on 16.

The Ron Drew Me­mo­rial Day will be held at the Proser­pine Golf Club this Satur­day.

It will be a great, fun-filled day which many mem­bers and sup­port­ers look for­ward to each year.

Reg­is­tra­tion will be from 10am with a shot­gun start at 11.

All play­ers are asked to get their teams to­gether for a great day of golf.

There will be food avail­able and a drinks cart will be do­ing the rounds all day.

Thurs­day play­ers will play a sta­ble­ford com­pe­ti­tion over both 9 and 18-holes with tee times to suit in­di­vid­ual play­ers, but play­ers must reg­is­ter at the pro shop to en­sure smooth play.


Dawnies played their monthly mug com­pe­ti­tion with Dave Thomas be­ing the win­ner on 57/41 from his wife Jaccy Thomas 68/ 41 af­ter a chip off on Sun­day.

Third place went to Mick Bur­rows 45/49, near­est-the-pins went to Tom Flem­ing on hole 9 and no one was able to claim hole 2.

Jaccy Thomas won the snake put­ter prize with a one putt, Tony Sell­wood was the win­ner of least num­ber of putts with 13 and Mau­rie Moody was the Brad­man’s win­ner.

This Sun­day, golf will be played on the back nine and play­ers will be trav­el­ling to Pi­o­neer Val­ley the fol­low­ing weekend on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 20.
