Ariston takes out Bowen Cup
IT WAS another successful day both on and off the track at the Telstra Whitsunday Bowen Cup on Saturday.
Bowen Turf Club president Cyril Vains said weather conditions were ideal, crowd numbers were excellent and the standard of racing on the track was high.
“The racing on the day presented a very strong field and the class of horse was extremely high for country Queensland,” he said.
The main race, the Telstra Whitsunday Bowen Cup (last race of the day) was won by number 6, Ariston.
The owner/trainer and strapper is Lyn Manzelmann of Brisbane, formerly of Mackay.
The horse has now had two wins from two starts at Bowen after winning on the same track earlier this year.
Mr Vains said the horse had progressed rapidly throughout the year after graduating from winner in its maiden race at Easter to winner of the Bowen Cup. The 1800m distance and conditions on the day suited the horse and helped it to a win. Mr Vains said the that overall day was great and also thanked the crowd for their good behaviour.
CUP WINNER: Bowen Cup winner Ariston with Robert Dykes, Ryan Langford (Telstra Whitsunday), Bowen Turf Club president Cyril Vains, jockey Mark Usher, owner/trainer and strapper Lyn Manzelmann and Sue Stridiron (Telstra Whitsunday).
