In­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tinue into bush­fire

PO­LICE are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the cause of a bush fire on Pringle Road at Wood­wark which first started in the early hours of Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 6.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the blaze be­tween 12.15am and 2am.

Whit­sun­day Po­lice act­ing sergeant Nathan Blain said for­tu­nately the Queens­land Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice (QFRS) had the fire un­der con­trol fairly quickly, how­ever, it flared up again at 2pm.

“QFRS at­tended and po­lice closed the road due to safety con­cerns,” Sgt Blain said.

A Depart­ment of Com­mu­nity Safety spokesper­son said QFRS sent seven fire crews to the site.

“They had no struc­tures un­der threat but com­pleted back­burn­ing overnight to con­tain the fire within con­tain­ment lines,” the spokesper­son said.

Fire crews were on site un­til at least 11pm on Sun­day and they re­turned the next morn- ing to en­sure the area was com­pletely safe.

Sgt Blain said po­lice were in­ves­ti­gat­ing whether or not the fire was de­lib­er­ately lit.

“[We had] re­ports of a flare be­ing let off, [which] may have caused this fire,” he said.
