RE: Money to market rebirth of Airlie Beach’ ( Whitsunday Times, October 3).

I cannot understand why Racheal Klitscher TEQ would want to ‘reposition Airlie Beach from a backpacker haven’ to a what? Has she walked through Airlie Beach main street lately? It is absolutely buzzing with young people.

Why would you want to discourage these wonderful people, customers, visitors? They have such a great time that perhaps in a few years they will bring their own families here.

They are here spending their hard earned cash on diving courses, island trips shopping and night clubs. They do not sit for three hours on some cafe veranda watching the sun go down sipping a glass of house wine.

Eight years ago ‘they’ whoever ‘they” were, tried the same thing ‘get rid of the backpackers’ and look what happened.

As a point of interest does Danial Rochford agree with this idea? Sandra Flisk AIRLIE BEACH
