Drivers warned to take care of licence status

PROSERPINE magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist is warning motorists to take responsibility for the status of their licences.

Mr Stjernqvist’s message was delivered in court on Monday, after Colin Bryce Quetti said he was not aware his licence had been demerit-point-suspended, when he was caught driving on August 31.

At 4.05pm Quetti was seen driving a white Nissan sedan in a southerly direction on the Bruce Highway at Lethebrook. Police checks revealed his licence was suspended from August 1 for three months. The 22-year-old said he knew he had fines but didn’t think the penalties would amount to 12 points. Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said it was his responsibility to know.

“Each and every one of us bears the onus of making sure that when we drive, we’re entitled to,” Mr Stjernqvist said. Quetti was fined $110 and disqualified from driving for six months.
