Mixed pairs com­pe­ti­tion un­der­way at Air­lie Beach

LAST Tues­day saw Judy Chen­gody, Doreen White­house and Margo Stan­ley win­ners for the day 15-6 against Mable Davy, Noela White­head, Jill Spencer and Elaine Had­low.

Next Tues­day will see the Ladies AGM at 10.30am, fol­lowed by lunch and se­lec­tors day and all male mem­bers are in­vited to come along and cel­e­brate two very spe­cial birth­days as well.

Bowlers are asked to bring along a plate of some­thing to share for lunch.

Play will com­mence as nor­mal at 1pm.

The Wed­nes­day men's day saw only a few play­ers and the jack­pot was not won again, it is now over $400. Win­ners for the day were Nik Fern­bach, Steve Tat­tam and Ron Spence 30-17.

Wed­nes­day evening Busi­ness House Bowls com­menced with six teams rolling up for this ses­sion of six to eight weeks.

Win­ners for this week were Char­ter Yachts Aus­tralia and sec­ond was Woolworths.

This is a per­fect in­tro­duc­tion to the game of bowls and the start time is 6.30pm ev­ery Wed­nes­day evening so it does not in­ter­fere with work­ing hours.

On Satur­day the first and sec­ond rounds of the mixed pairs club cham­pi­onships was played and all games were very close in round one.

Betty Ni­colle and David Dias de­feated Jo Howes and Bob McMa­hon 19-16, Jill Spencer and Nik Fern­bach de­feated Henny Tat­tam and Steve Tat­tam 27-24 and Elaine Had­low and Kevin Jewell de­feated Col Howes and Margo Stan­ley 1716 (af­ter hav­ing to play an ex­tra end to de­cide the win­ner).

In the other games Dale Hell and Eric Bot­tle de­feated Sandy Bar­rile and Rick Wil­liams 27-20.

In the sec­ond round played in the af­ter­noon Elaine Had­low and Kevin Jewell de­feated Nik Fern­bach and Jill Spencer 24-18 and Dale Hell and Eric Bot­tle de­feated Betty Ni­colle and David Dias 24-13.

Sun­day so­cial bowls saw a large group of bowlers and win­ners for the day were Mau­reen Barnard, Henny Tat­tam and Mae Se­comb who de­feated M Barnard, Richard White­house and Nik Fern­bach 16-8.

In the other games Herb Se­comb, Keith Beetham and Jo Howes de­feated Wally Gray, Doreen White­house and Steve Tat­tam 14-8 and Jill Spencer and Margo Stan­ley de­feated Ken Ry­der and An­drew Bell.

Bare­foot Bowls con­tin­ues ev­ery Fri­day evening from 6pm and cost $15 per per­son for bowls and a sausage siz­zle, with book­ings to be made to con­tact 0488 754 184.

A mixed pairs com­pe­ti­tion is start­ing on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 31 at 6.30pm and any­one af­ter more in­for­ma­tion should con­tact Kevin Jewell on 4945 3998.

The Cruise Car­ni­val spon­sored by Cruise Whit­sun­day will be held on Satur­day, Novem­ber 9.

This is a mixed triples car­ni­val so play­ers need to get their teams to­gether and con­tact car­ni­val sec­re­tary Ali­son Holmes on 4946 1219.

There are some fab­u­lous prizes to be won in­clud­ing trips to the reef and is­lands.

On Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 20 at 9am the first round of the mixed fours club cham­pi­onships will be played be­tween Betty Ni­colle, Jill Spencer, David Dias and Bob McMa­hon and Col Howes, Steve Tat­tam, Jo Howes and Margo Stan­ley.

Kevin Jewell's team got the bye and will play the win­ners of the morn­ing game in the af­ter­noon.
