Magnetic Island trip a hit with Whitsunday golfers
A GROUP of Whitsunday golfers along with partners and friends spent the weekend enjoying the laid back atmosphere of Magnetic Island and played the Island’s 9-hole course twice over the weekend.
The course has resident koalas spotted at the first tee and crows that just love coloured golf balls but won’t ignore the plain white ones either.
It looked deceptively simple but the proof was in the playing with some tricky gullies, high set tees and high set greens testing all.
Players also noticed the gradients of the course which are not found at the home course and Cardiac Hill was well named.
High praise to those who walked some of the holes due to a shortage of carts as a result of a breakdown and a tip-over before the Whitsunday group arrived.
Saturday was a social competition for players to familiarise themselves with the course in readiness for the two ball ambrose competition on the Sunday. Linda Wardroper sponsored a best hat/cap of the day trophy for the Saturday game, worn by Mark Nicol.
Saturday’s winners were Brendon Meharry (A grade), Beryl Miller (B grade) and Linda Wardroper (C grade). On Sunday in the two ball ambrose Ian Giles and Wayne Temby were the winners on nett 57.75 in a close scoring competition, with three pairs on equal scores in second place.
Next Sunday will be the President versus Captain teams competition with tee off at 7.30am.
WINNERS: Wayne Temby and Ian Giles won the stableford event on Sunday during the Whitsunday Golf Club's trip to Magnetic Island.
ISLAND TRIP: Whitsunday Golf Club members Brendon Meharry (A grade), Beryl Miller (B grade) and Linda Wardroper (C grade) were Saturday's winners on Magnetic Island.
