Players needed for Proserpine team
MORE players are needed for senior cricket in Proserpine as they prepare to create a team to take on Bowen in a series of inter-town challenges.
Cricketers from across the Whitsundays met up to have a hit and get some practice in Proserpine on Saturday but more numbers are needed for the local competition which set to kick off in a few weeks.
Club president Craig Brown said the local competition will be up and running by November and encouraged players of all skill levels to come and get involved.
“This year we are trying to play representative games before and after Christmas against Bowen. We need more players to show an interest so that we can sort out or teams for that,” he said.
“We are hoping to have home and away games, a full day tournament and build a friendly rivalry with Bowen.”
The Bowen competition features a 20-over competition and Brown said players wanting to compete in Proserpine’s 40-over format are more than welcome to get involved.
“40-overs a side is a great format for those who want to take cricket a little bit more serious,” he said.
Players are welcome to come along to the Kelsey Creek Sports Complex at 12.30pm this Saturday.
There is no annual fee with players only having to contribute $10 for each game they play to cover the ball fees and to help cover the club’s running costs.
All equipment is provided if required and there will be drinks, food and other refreshments available at the clubhouse throughout the day.
