Junior Brahmans celebrate strong season
MORE than 300 people attended the Proserpine Whitsunday Junior Brahmans annual presentations at the club’s home ground on Saturday.
Nathan Barrett’s impressive season was recognised with the young gun taking out the prestigious title of player of the year, most consistent player trophy in the under-14s and making the North Queensland Marlins representative team.
Congratulations also went to the six players who were selected in the Mackay representative team including Jack Kearns and Jeremy Kempston from the under-13s, Nathan Barrett and Kai O’Donnell from the under-14s and Cadell Schlenner and Jackson Brooks from the under-15s.
Club president Kevin Young was thrilled with the success of all teams over the season.
“Every player from the under-6s right through to the under-15s has improved immensely over the season and they should all be proud of their achievements individually and as a team,” he said.
“We have a long list of dedicated players and we are looking forward to building on their achievements next year.”
Another major highlight of the day was the presentation of the junior club person award to Sam Bernett.
“Sam plays for the under-15s and is always willing to referee matches, he helps out Dion Ferraris in the under-9s and was a great asset over the Paul Bowman Carnival weekend,” Young said.
After the presentations players and their families made the most of the jumping castle and other fun activities around the sports ground.
Young said the club would be looking to field an under-16s team next year to help players build a pathway into the senior Brahmans under-18s side.
Meanwhile, in senior rugby league news, the Proserpine Rugby League Football Club’s annual general meeting (AGM) will be held at the clubhouse on Les Stagg Oval on Thursday, October 31 at 6pm. It is a great opportunity for residents who wish to have their say on the future of rugby league in the Whitsundays to stand up and be counted.
