Power cut to almost 5000 customers

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

LOCAL Ergon Energy crews repaired a fault on Monday that cut power to 4893 customers in Airlie Beach and Cannonvale who lost power just after 8.30am on Monday.

The incident occurred in Stewart Drive and Ergon crews managed to get power back on to the majority of affected customers by 9.50am after isolating the fault and switching from other parts of the network.

Area operations manager Chester Brodie said one of the main high voltage lines (66,000 volts) supplying the Cannonvale substation tripped after a cross arm was damaged by pole top tracking and insulator leakage following light rain in the area.

“Once supply was restored to customers we then had to isolate a sec- tion of the network in order to carry out repairs at the original fault location safely and effectively,” he said.

“This meant that 191 customers were off line in Beth Court, Jessies Way, Pandanus Drive, Picannini Close, Pleasant Drive, Shute Harbour Road and Stewart Drive between 11.25am and 1.37pm while repairs were completed.”
