Two cy­clists hit in Can­non­vale

TWO cy­clists have been by hit by cars while rid­ing in Can­non­vale over the past week.

At around 5.10pm last Thurs­day a woman was knocked off her bike by a trailer while she was turn­ing onto Tropic Road on the round­about at the in­ter­sec­tion of Shute Har­bour Road.

She suf­fered mi­nor in­juries in­clud­ing grazes across her body.

On Satur­day morn­ing, a 63-year-old Can­non­vale man rid­ing his bike was taken to the Proser­pine Hos­pi­tal to be treated for mi­nor in­juries af­ter he was hit by a car on Macarthur Drive in Can­non­vale.

Of­fi­cer in charge Nathan Blain said the driver of the car was a 70-year-old Can­non­vale man and al­leged he failed to give way to the bike rider while turn­ing from Macarthur Drive onto Shute Har­bour Road.

The driver has not been charged as po­lice are still in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent.
