Fun events on the hori­zon for sailors

SAILORS from the Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club (WSC) have plenty to look for­ward to with the Swim, Swim, Swim, Ladies Skip­pers Se­ries to be held this weekend.

WSC sail­ing de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer Tim Parker said the se­ries was set to at­tract some ex­cel­lent skip­pers in­clud­ing past win­ners Ta­nia Wat­son on Twister and Kathryn Gal­loway, who will be sail­ing on the for­mer 007, now called Queens­land Ma­rine Ser­vices. The se­ries will start with a race on Satur­day at 11am. This race will take lady skip­pers and their crews around some of the Whit­sun­day is­lands be­fore re­turn­ing to fin­ish in Air­lie Beach.

On Sun­day, there will be two races held in Pi­o­neer Bay around laid marks.

En­try forms are avail­able at the re­cep­tion of the sail­ing club.

Mean­while, three WSC boats joined in the club’s first weekend cruise last Satur­day, sail­ing from Air­lie Beach to East Bay.

Janner II and Skytrim were judged equal win­ners for their sail­ing per­for­mance.

Another cruise is planned for Satur­day, Novem­ber 16 and all yachties are wel­come to join in. The cruise will in­clude an overnight stop to be cho­sen on the day.
