Close competition in Sunday golf
WHITSUNDAY golfers played a team competition in tandem with a stroke competition last Sunday with keen rivalry between the two teams of 12 players each.
Competitors were at times hampered by the strong blustery breezes, particularly on holes 8, 9, 13 and 16 where direction was not easy to hold. Unpredictable greens again made putting a trial for some.
A grade was won by Kym Hill on nett 71, ahead of runner-up Scott Wardroper on 75 while the best gross score came from Wayne Temby.
In B grade Dean Kercher finished on top with 68, ahead of Brad Hammond on 72 and George Meharry had the best gross score.
Linda Wardroper continued her winning form with a 60 in C grade, well clear of runner-up Pauline Redpath on 66.
The best gross score came from Wilf Herweg.
Longest drives for the day were Geoff Harrison (A grade), Mark Winter (B grade) and Tiina Randmae (ladies).
Nearest-the-pins in A/B grade were Dean Kercher on hole 2, Wayne Temby on 9 and 13 and Mark Nicol on 16.
In C grade the only nearest- the-pin was Reg Kercher on hole 16 while in the ladies Linda Wardroper was closest on 13 and 16.
The concurrent team competition, the President’s Team versus the Captain’s Team, resulted in a win for the President’s with a total nett score of 954 defeating the Captain’s score of 973.
Next Sunday will be the October Monthly Medal stroke competition with tee off at 7.30am.
