North Queens­land swim­ming sea­son un­der­way

THE North Queens­land re­gional swim sea­son kicked off re­cently at Pi­o­neer Mackay, with 32 swimmers from Can­non­vale and Whit­sun­day com­ing away with a num­ber of im­prove­ments and per­sonal bests.

All the swimmers put in a fine show­ing in the first meet of the sea­son.

There were some great ef­forts from up and com­ing swim stars Ainslie and Dy­lan Bar­beler, Han­nah Crit­ten­den and Jor­dan Men­zies who all moved up to A grade level swimmers in a num­ber of the events.

Un­der-7s dog pad­dle per­form­ers Daisy Neil and Ali Ro­manella, along with dash for cash events achieved the ex­tra mo­ti­va­tion af­ter a long day with suc­cess for a num­ber of swimmers.

All swimmers are putting in the ef­fort to achieve their goals for the sea­son and at club nights the long stand­ing club records have been tum­bling.

Last week Char­lotte Mitchell broke Kira Copp's 25m freestyle record from 2000. Ivan Van Zyl claimed the 50m Breast­stroke record held by Jack Loft since 2005.

Prepa­ra­tions are un­der way for the Great Bar­rier Reef Car­ni­val in Mackay this com­ing weekend with the two day car­ni­val promis­ing stiff com­pe­ti­tion.

All new com­ers are wel­come to join the swim­ming ac­tiv­i­ties. Club nights are ev­ery Wed­nes­day night with warm up at 5pm be­fore rac­ing starts at 6pm sharp with a bar­be­cue at the in­ter­val.
