North Queensland swimming season underway
THE North Queensland regional swim season kicked off recently at Pioneer Mackay, with 32 swimmers from Cannonvale and Whitsunday coming away with a number of improvements and personal bests.
All the swimmers put in a fine showing in the first meet of the season.
There were some great efforts from up and coming swim stars Ainslie and Dylan Barbeler, Hannah Crittenden and Jordan Menzies who all moved up to A grade level swimmers in a number of the events.
Under-7s dog paddle performers Daisy Neil and Ali Romanella, along with dash for cash events achieved the extra motivation after a long day with success for a number of swimmers.
All swimmers are putting in the effort to achieve their goals for the season and at club nights the long standing club records have been tumbling.
Last week Charlotte Mitchell broke Kira Copp's 25m freestyle record from 2000. Ivan Van Zyl claimed the 50m Breaststroke record held by Jack Loft since 2005.
Preparations are under way for the Great Barrier Reef Carnival in Mackay this coming weekend with the two day carnival promising stiff competition.
All new comers are welcome to join the swimming activities. Club nights are every Wednesday night with warm up at 5pm before racing starts at 6pm sharp with a barbecue at the interval.
