Final week of crushing

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

PROSERPINE Mill has entered its last week of crushing for the 2013 season.

As at 8am yesterday, the mill had crushed about 1.55 million tonnes of cane.

The average CCS for the season is 14.6.

Mackay regional opera- tions manager Danny Van der Berg said the district’s final crop was expected to be just less than 1.65 million tonnes.

“We currently expect the last cane to be harvested on Monday, with crushing to be finalised early on Tuesday, 5 November,” he said.

“The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a chance of showers later this week.

“However, it seems unlikely enough rain would be received to disrupt the final days of the season, particularly given how dry the district is at the moment.”

RAW PRODUCT: Wilmar Proserpine site manager Danny Van der Berg pictured in June with the first of the season's sugar cane harvest at the Proserpine Mill. The mill's 2013 crushing season is now into its final week .
