Anti-bullying program coming to schools

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

ANTI-BULLYING charity Stand for the Silent have received a welcome boost with a recent grant allowing them to offer free packs to schools around the country to deliver their program.

Vice-president Liz Baguley said that the charity started here in the Whitsundays last year and recently received a grant from the community gambling benefit fund to cover the cost of production and for promotional material.

“We would love to get the word out that the packs are ready to go and also let the local community know how they can get involved,” she said.

“It’s about making sure kids can stand up to bullying and not be bystanders. We want all the schools to take it on and really push or message.”

The program will be delivered around the Whitsundays by noted Mackay public speaker Nigel Dalton, starting with a presentation at St Catherine’s in Proserpine this Monday.

The program includes a 20 minute DVD presentation on the effects of bullying and aims to empower and raise awareness among young people so that they themselves do not have to stand silent against bullying.
