Competitions coming to a close
THE final of the consistency singles for 2013 was played on Wednesday where Joan McGrath 123 minus 10 defeated Maree Daffara 87.
In social play Fran Porter, Janet Mortimer, Joyce Patullo and Joy Jeffries defeated Trudy Hanne, Cathy Holmes, Flo O’Hanlon and Barbara Dammash 21-15 and Norma Daniels, Elaine White (visitor from Gymea), Arthur Williams and Heather Patullo defeated Carlie Albertson, John Lahney, Pam Selmes and Gail Camm 18-14.
Wednesday, October 30 is Pam Selmes’ Life Member Day.
All are welcome to come along and have a great afternoon of bowls.
Wednesday, November 6 is Past President’s Day.
All of the past presidents have contributed such a lot to the life of the club and this is a day when the club gets to show their appreciation of their past and continued efforts.
There have been a couple of changes of dates.
Presentation Day and President Maree Daffara’s Trophy Day has been moved to Wednesday, November 27 and the AGM will now be held on Wednesday, December 4 along with break-up day.
The two bowls triples team playing at Mackay Club on Saturday were narrowly defeated by City in the Champion of Champions.
The game was very close all the way along and they were only beaten on the last bowl.
At Proserpine there were three competition games played.
In the mixed singles there was a great semi-final game with Wayne Handley defeating Heather Brown 25-18.
In the mixed pairs Joan McGrath and Shane Spann defeated Arthur Williams and Flo O’Hanlon 30-10 and Barry Saroglia and Dot Hinschen defeated Matthew and Gail Camm 25-11.
In social play Janet Mortimer, Trudy Hanne, Pam Selmes and Rob Taylor defeated John Lahney, Noelie Dibben and Joy Jeffries 1813 and Jeanette Calway and John Henderson defeated Fran Porter and Barry Zillmann 17-16.
The Sunday trophy was won by Gail Matthew Camm.
Matthew Camm and Dale Haack will be playing in the Champion of Champion B pairs at Pioneer Valley on Saturday, November 2.
Competition draw for Sunday, November 3 is the second semi-final of the mixed singles with Dean Lovelock playing Maree Daffara, marker Heather Brown.
Mixed pairs (subject to Champion of Champions) will see Dale Haack and Joy Jeffries play Dot Hinschen and Barry Saroglia.
Those who played on the green on Sunday would have noticed the light dusting of fertilizer on the green.
This represented many hours of work.
The club thanked Sandy Daffara, Kevin Thorogood, Ross Reville and Wayne Handley who applied it on Thursday and Friday and have spent so much time watering this in.
The Val and Jean De Boni Memorial Day on Saturday, November 9 is a mixed fours competition of three games on the Saturday.
Then Saturday, November 16 is Dick Todd Memorial Day, also a fours competition.
Sunday, November 17 is the state wide come and try day for newcomers to come and see what it is all about.
FAIR PLAY: Arthur Williams, Joan McGrath, Flo O'Hanlon and Shane Spann played some great bowls while competing in the mixed pairs semi final at the Proserpine Bowls Club on Sunday afternoon.
