Close finishes for monthly medal in Whitsunday golf
WHITSUNDAY golfers played the October monthly medal last Sunday.
The course gave a lot of run and ball carry was pretty impressive with longest drives a good indicator of performance.
Nearest-the-pins were shared around in A/B grade and ladies while Reg Kercher dominated C grade.
Three new members signed up on the day and recent signups reflect good membership growth for the Whitsunday Club.
In A grade the winner was Rod Wecker on nett 67, ahead of runner-up Geoff Harrison on 68 while Ross Richards had the best gross score.
B grade was won by Ernie Holstein on 68, one clear of Mick Cooper on 69.
The best gross score came from Brendon Meharry.
Jacqui Wall won C grade on 72, fur shots ahead of runner-up Ian Giles on 76.
Reg Kercher had the best gross score.
Longest drives came from Geoff Harrison (A grade), George Meharry (B grade), Wilf Herweg (C grade) and Tiina Randmae (ladies).
Nearest-the-pins in A/B grade were Kerry Hall on hole 2, Ron Jamieson on 9, Ernie Holstein on 13 and Mick Caton on 16.
In C grade Reg Kercher was nearest-the-pin on 9 and 16.
Ladies nearest-the-pins went to Anna Winterbourn on 9 and 13 and Tiina Randmae on 16.
Next Sunday will be the first round of the President’s Cup with tee off as normal at 7.30am.
Carts are booked and availa- ble for the teams after the order of competitors for the day has been revealed.
The first round will be a two ball ambrose competition, each win will count for one point.
Golfers not in the teams will play the same competition format. The teams are found below. Silver: Geoff Harrison (captain), Kym Hill, Ron Jamieson, Wayne Temby, Scotty Wardroper, Ernie Holstein, Brad Hammond, Mark Nicol, Reg Kercher, Linda Wardroper and Tessa Aitken.
