Se­lec­tor’s day a big suc­cess at bowls club

AIR­LIE BOWLS

LAST Tues­day was the ladies AGM fol­lowed by a se­lec­tor’s day, which had a won­der­ful turnout.

Af­ter the meet­ing, the men were in­vited to join the ladies for lunch and the af­ter­noon games with win­ners for the day be­ing Jack Dob­bins, Mar­garet Heeney and Margo Stan­ley de­feat­ing Wally Gray, Judy Chen­gody and Elaine Had­low 15-9.

In the other games Tess Walker, Dale Hell and Keith Beetham de­feated Tolma Camm, Col Howes and Doreen Peadon 14-10, Doreen White­house, Ali­son Holmes and Jo Howes de­feated Diane Dob- bins, Mae Se­comb and Ken Ry­der 14-10 and Dom Sposato and Lane Telford beat Eric Bot­tle and Jill Spencer 14 -10.

The men had a good turn out on Wed­nes­day with win­ners for the day be­ing Jack Dob­bins, Steve Tat­tam and David Stock 29-1.

The jack­pot stands at $241 as there was no win­ner this week, so it is worth­while com­ing along to play.

Wed­nes­day evening busi­ness house bowls is very com­pet­i­tive and all teams are try­ing their best to win.

Two of the lead­ing teams play each other this Wed­nes­day, so com­pe­ti­tion will be fierce.

Games start at 6.30pm and cost $15 for the game and din­ner.

Fri­day night bare­foot bowls was great fun, a won­der­ful group of lo­cals came to en­joy the great at­mos­phere while en­joy­ing the game.

Those who want to come along this Fri­day should ring Sandy on 0488 754 184 and make a book­ing oth­er­wise they could be dis­ap­pointed.

Sun­day so­cial bowls was a lit­tle down on num­bers due to other com­mit­ments, but those that at­tended had a good time.

Win­ner of the games were Dom Sposato and Margo Stan­ley de­feat­ing Mau­reen Barnard and Col Howes 26-11 and Doreen White­house and David Stock beat Mable Davy and Steve Tat­tam 27-13.

To­day is the start of a mixed pairs com­pe­ti­tion com­menc­ing at 6.30pm.

Cost is $10 per per­son and food will be avail­able for pur­chase.

Satur­day, Novem­ber 2 is the start of the mixed triples, with play start­ing at 9am.

Col Howes, Jo Howes and Margo Stan­ley will play Hen­ney Tat­tam, Mar­garet Heeney and Steve Tat­tam.

Af­ter­noon games at 1pm will be Bob McMa­hon's team to play Kevin Jewell's team.

Rick Wil­liams team will play the win­ner of morn­ing game.

On Sun­day, Novem­ber 17 they will be hold­ing a fam­ily come and try day from 10am.

Any­one in­ter­ested in com­ing along to check out the game of bowls is most wel­come.

This is a great op­por­tu­nity for new­com­ers to the area.

ON THE KITTY: Mau­reen Barnard was on form while play­ing in the so­cial com­pe­ti­tion with Don Sposito at the Air­lie Beach Bowl­ing Club on Sun­day af­ter­noon.
