Valleys cruise home against Warriors
SATURDAY’S cricket match at the Proserpine Sporting Complex saw Valleys easy winners over Warriors in a low scoring affair.
Batting first, Warriors struggled to get runs on the board thanks to tight bowling from David Hobson (3/9 from 2 overs), Simon Mahomet (2/0 from 1 over) and Carl Dorman (2/ 25 from 2 overs). Cory Lucht (18) was the only Warriors batsman to make any inroads into the Valleys bowling scoring 16 of his 18 runs from boundaries.
Once his wicket fell, the Warriors batting line-up collapsed, losing their last 6 wickets for only 12 runs to be all out for 59.
The small total was never going to be enough to defend, however Warriors bowlers did their best to make the run chase as difficult as possible for the Valleys batsmen.
Hayden Russell (3/6 from 2 overs) was the standout bowler for Warriors, with Shane Knight (1/16 from 3 overs) and Winston Poid (1/25 from 2 overs) each picking up a wicket.
Valleys’ batsman Liam Davies (36 not out) almost single-handedly scored the 60 runs needed for victory, with David Vickers (15) and Aaron Regan (10 not out) offering some assistance.
The game was over after just 10 overs with Valleys victors by 5 wickets.
The game this Saturday will again be determined based on the number of players available on the day.
New or returning players are still required, with only enough numbers for two teams so far this season.
Games are on a pay as you play ba- sis, with the cost of $10 per player helping cover some of the running costs of the Proserpine Cricket Association.
Games commence at 12.30pm each Saturday at the Proserpine Sporting Complex on Kelsey Creek Road.
