Gardel impresses in world cup debut
FORMER Whitsunday Brahmans player Sam Gardel got the experience of a lifetime when he played for the Italian national team against Wales in the Rugby League World Cup in Wales.
Played at the impressive Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, Gardel and his Ita- lian team-mates produced a solid 32-16 win in front of 80,000 fans.
Gardel plays for South Logan in the QRL Intrust Super Cup and is one of a host of Australian based players in the Italian side including NRL stars Anthony Minichello and Aidan Guerra.
After starting on the interchange bench he played 20 minutes in the 16-point win and impressed with eight runs for 59 metres while racking up 22 tackles.
The team is next in action against Scotland on Monday night.
