Gardel im­presses in world cup de­but

FOR­MER Whit­sun­day Brah­mans player Sam Gardel got the ex­pe­ri­ence of a life­time when he played for the Ital­ian na­tional team against Wales in the Rugby League World Cup in Wales.

Played at the im­pres­sive Mil­len­nium Sta­dium in Cardiff, Wales, Gardel and his Ita- lian team-mates pro­duced a solid 32-16 win in front of 80,000 fans.

Gardel plays for South Lo­gan in the QRL In­trust Su­per Cup and is one of a host of Aus­tralian based play­ers in the Ital­ian side in­clud­ing NRL stars An­thony Minichello and Ai­dan Guerra.

Af­ter start­ing on the in­ter­change bench he played 20 min­utes in the 16-point win and im­pressed with eight runs for 59 me­tres while rack­ing up 22 tack­les.

The team is next in ac­tion against Scot­land on Mon­day night.
