Whitsundays makes global bucket list
TWO American brothers have enjoyed the very best of the Whitsundays over the past week and will video-blog their experiences to the world.
Alex and Marko Ayling were the winners of the global MyDestination.com’s ‘Biggest Baddest Bucket List’ competition and chose the Whitsundays as one of only two Australian destinations on their six-month allexpenses paid trip around the world.
The brothers arrived in the Whitsundays last Thursday and their action-packed itinerary over the past week has included a night under the stars at Reefsleep, visit to Hamilton Island and Ocean Rafting trip to Whitehaven Beach.
Here, they got to hang out with their idol Best Job in the World winner Ben Southall and enjoy a champagne barbecue cooked by Capers’ localvore chef Tim Whitehorn.
On Saturday, the brothers were awarded honorary citizenship at the Airlie Beach markets.
Marko Ayling said they would love to come back one day and become permanent citizens.
“We had the chance to go anywhere in the world and we just had to come to the Whitsundays - it’s not a bucket list trip without a visit to the Great Barrier Reef,” he said.
“We have seen a lot in a few days and hope that we can promote the region and inspire others to have their own adventures in the Whitsundays.”
My Destination Whitsundays managing director Tammy Smith said she was very grateful to everyone involved in creating the boys’ itinerary and “such memorable experiences”.
“I just hope that it gets the Whitsundays name out there to the globe,” she said.
“There will be so many people they will be reaching out to with their blogs and “vlogs” and we want them to put us on their bucket list of things to do as well.” The brothers are acting as MyDestination ambassadors posting weekly video blogs and sharing their adventures from each of the 25 destinations with travellers from all over the world. They can be found on Facebook, Intagram and Twitter as @vagabrothers.
