Photographic phenomenon captures best of Airlie
THE photographic phenomenon of Instagram was brought to the Whitsundays last week when 10 key Australian and international social media influencers attended an Instameet in Airlie Beach.
At the three hour event last Thursday, local Instagrammers mingled with the group of professional photographers sharing knowledge and tips while capturing the beauty of the Airlie Beach foreshore for a global audience of 2.5 million followers to see.
Cannonvale instagrammer Rhea Hepburn said she was thrilled to finally meet some of her Instagram idols such as Jewels Lynch, Lauren Bath and Pauly Vella.
“It was great to hang out with them and show them my town and to meet other local Instagrammers as well,” she said.
Ms Hepburn said as a result of the Instameet she had started up a community based Instagram group@whitsundays_ig to enable locals to meet up for regular photo walks and further Instameets.
Meanwhile, hosted by Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) in partnership with Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL), the group of professional Instagrammers went on to explore the Whitsunday islands and coast.
WMDL’s chief executive officer Danial Rochford described their itinerary as a taste of “some of the best the Whitsundays has on offer”.
“As a result, the Whitsundays Instagram account as well as the #loveairliebeach and #lovethewhitsundays hashtags have been flooded with stunning Whitsundays images captured by the professional photographers,” Mr Rochford said.
Instagram is a social photosharing application with around 100 million followers from around the globe.
