Golfers gearing up for final week
WHITSUNDAY golfers ventured out under cloudy skies to play a Tiger Woods stableford competition last Sunday.
The course had been transformed with the recent rain, and the long rough and softened fairways made for good conditions tempered somewhat by blustery breezes later in the morning.
Two competitions ran concurrently with the club competition played alongside a fiercely fought round 3 of the President’s Cup carrying half a point for a win.
The Reds had a convincing victory on the day but Blues are still ahead on points
In club competition the win- ners were Brad Hammond and Mark Winter on 75 points ahead of Kym Hill and Reg Kercher on 74 and Rod Wecker and Anna Winterbourn on 67.
Longest drives came from Mick Cooper (A grade), Ernie Holstein (B grade), Ian Giles (C grade) and Tiina Randmae (ladies).
Nearest-the-pins were Jacqui Wall and Tiina Randmae on hole 2, Mick Cooper and Daniel Webb on 9 and Brad Hammond and Mark Winter on 13.
In the President’s Cup for the Reds Wayne Temby and Scotty Wardroper defeated Ross Richards and Ian Giles, Ernie Holstein and Linda War- droper defeated Kerry Hall and Dean Kercher and Kym Hill and Reg Kercher defeated Mick Caton and Brendon Meharry.
For the Blues Jacqui Wall and Tiina Randmae defeated Geoff Harrison and Mark Nicol with each win worth half a point to leave the Reds on 4½ points and the Blues on 5½.
