Golfers gear­ing up for fi­nal week

WHIT­SUN­DAY golfers ven­tured out un­der cloudy skies to play a Tiger Woods sta­ble­ford com­pe­ti­tion last Sun­day.

The course had been trans­formed with the re­cent rain, and the long rough and soft­ened fair­ways made for good con­di­tions tem­pered some­what by blus­tery breezes later in the morn­ing.

Two com­pe­ti­tions ran con­cur­rently with the club com­pe­ti­tion played along­side a fiercely fought round 3 of the Pres­i­dent’s Cup car­ry­ing half a point for a win.

The Reds had a con­vinc­ing vic­tory on the day but Blues are still ahead on points

In club com­pe­ti­tion the win- ners were Brad Ham­mond and Mark Win­ter on 75 points ahead of Kym Hill and Reg Kercher on 74 and Rod Wecker and Anna Win­ter­bourn on 67.

Long­est drives came from Mick Cooper (A grade), Ernie Hol­stein (B grade), Ian Giles (C grade) and Ti­ina Rand­mae (ladies).

Near­est-the-pins were Jac­qui Wall and Ti­ina Rand­mae on hole 2, Mick Cooper and Daniel Webb on 9 and Brad Ham­mond and Mark Win­ter on 13.

In the Pres­i­dent’s Cup for the Reds Wayne Temby and Scotty Wardroper de­feated Ross Richards and Ian Giles, Ernie Hol­stein and Linda War- droper de­feated Kerry Hall and Dean Kercher and Kym Hill and Reg Kercher de­feated Mick Ca­ton and Bren­don Me­harry.

For the Blues Jac­qui Wall and Ti­ina Rand­mae de­feated Ge­off Har­ri­son and Mark Ni­col with each win worth half a point to leave the Reds on 4½ points and the Blues on 5½.

The Whit­sun­day Golf Club Christ­mas party will be in the Reef Room at the Reef Gate­way Ho­tel on Satur­day 14th De­cem­ber start­ing at 6 pm.

Next Sun­day will be a sin­gle stroke com­pe­ti­tion, the Pres­i­dent’s Cup fi­nal round will be sin­gle stroke match play with tee off at 7.30am.
