Clubs pitch in for sports park upgrade
SPORTING teams from across the Whitsundays will benefit from the work done to improve the Whitsunday Sports Park’s bottom field last week.
The local netball, softball, Aussie rules, rugby union, touch football and soccer clubs helped raise the $13,000 which was spent on levelling and topsoiling the bottom field over a number of days late last week.
Whitsunday FC president and sports park curator Steve Tween thanked all the local clubs and also paid tribute to the businesses who had offered special rates to support the upgrade.
“Upgrading the fields will benefit a num- ber of sporting clubs and their players who use the fields,” he said.
“We’ve had the North Queensland Cowboys here this year for their pre-season and also had a Mackay Cutters game and upgrading the field will help us to continue to attract events like that.”
Tween said there are plans to do the AFL field in the coming weeks with the work to be underway after the touch football finals wrap up in the coming weeks.
“People will notice the difference of the surface and levelling it out will lead to a safer pitch and cut down on injuries,” Tween said.
