Juniors excited for state champs
TALENTED young cricketers Lachlan Draper, 11, and Lochlan Bland, 14 will aim to make their mark at the upcoming state cricket championships for their respective teams.
Both boys are products of Proserpine junior cricket but currently play for Souths in the Mackay club competition, travelling down with their parents twice a week for training and games.
Lachlan has been selected for the Mackay Whitsunday under-12s team, who will play five one-day matches in Atherton from December 16-21.
The talented youngster is a skilled batsmen and wicketkeeper and said he was looking forward to having some fun at the tournament while playing cricket with his mates.
Lochlan is the elder of the two cricketers and will represent the Mackay-Whitsunday region for the third year in a row when he runs out for the under-14s team in Mackay from December 16-21.
“I’m looking forward to the experience and being with my team-mates. I’ve been with the same group for the last two years and we’ve all gotten to know each other pretty well,” he said.
The pair has been training hard a couple of times a week in Cannonvale as they prepare to face off against the best young cricketers in the state in a few weeks.
