Funds needed for New Year fireworks
THE New Year’s Eve fireworks spectacular is set to go off with a bang on the Airlie Beach Foreshore on December 31.
This tradition has been organised by the Whitusnday Reef Festival committee every year.
Chairperson of committee, Margie Murphy, said they were hoping to reach $15,000 to finance the epic fireworks display and had currently raised half of their goal.
“We are really happy with the response so far but we really need more support from local businesses and community groups to ensure the success of the dual fireworks display this year,” she said.
There are two fireworks displays scheduled for the community to enjoy with a family fireworks spectacular at 9pm followed by a mega show at midnight.
“Even though it was raining last year, the fireworks still went ahead and we are hoping for better weather this year,” Ms Murphy said.
“New Year’s Eve is a time of celebration and it will be great to see the community come together to celebrate what has been a fantastic last half of the year and an even better New Year.”
The Whitsunday Reef Festival committee will have a stall on the foreshore with a great range of glow products available for purchase.
