Stu­dent to share the joy with lo­cal youth

MANY peo­ple share the joy of giv­ing at Christ­mas but 10year-old Layla Cle­ments has made it her mis­sion to raise funds to buy Christ­mas gifts for chil­dren reg­is­tered with the Whit­sun­day Neigh­bour­hood Cen­tre.

Layla has placed Christ­mas­themed fundrais­ing tins at Buck’s Seafood, Can­non­vale News and Cas­ket Agency and Cel­lar­bra­tions Whit­sun­day Cel­lars in the Whit­sun­day Shop­ping Cen­tre and at Harts Pizzas in Can­non­vale.

To date, Layla has raised $250 but is hop­ing to reach her goal of $500 be­fore Christ­mas.

“I love the feel­ing of wak­ing up on Christ­mas day to see presents un­der my Christ­mas tree and I don’t think any­one should miss out on that feel­ing,” she said.

Peita Rollings from the Whit­sun­day Neigh­bour­hood Cen­tre said there were 15 chil­dren aged be­tween 10 and 15years-old reg­is­tered with the cen­tre who would ben­e­fit from Layla’s gifts.
