TOUCH FOOT­BALL

A SIN­GLE try was all that sep­a­rated the grand fi­nal win­ners at touch foot­ball on Mon­day night with Ray White tak­ing out the A grade com­pe­ti­tion and Wolves reign­ing supreme in B grade.

Ray White saw off long­time ri­vals Go On Then 4-3 in a tense en­counter that came right down to the wire.

Af­ter lead­ing at half time 2-1 the sec­ond half saw the teams trad­ing tries but the first half de­fence from Ray White saw them emerge as even­tual win­ners, adding to their grand fi­nal in the first sea­son ear­lier this year.

Wolves and Jets gave their all in the B grade fi­nal, fight­ing tooth and nail to be tied at 2-2 at half time.

Af­ter the break the Wolves found some mo­men­tum and then de­fended strongly to hold on to a 4-3 win.

Whit­sun­day Touch As­so­ci­a­tion rep­re­sen­ta­tive Bernard Woods said that it was a great end to the sea­son.

“There was some very high qual­ity foot­ball played by all teams, with good de­fence be­ing the de­ter­min­ing fac­tor in both games,” he said.

It was also the fi­nal night for the ju­nior com­pe­ti­tion on Mon­day with the play­ers now pro­gress­ing into ac­tual games com­menc­ing next year.

The club thanked ev­ery­one for sup­port­ing the ju­nior com­pe­ti­tion and help­ing make it a suc­cess.
