Touch footy champs crowned
A SINGLE try was all that separated the grand final winners at touch football on Monday night with Ray White taking out the A grade competition and Wolves reigning supreme in B grade.
Ray White saw off longtime rivals Go On Then 4-3 in a tense encounter that came right down to the wire.
After leading at half time 2-1 the second half saw the teams trading tries but the first half defence from Ray White saw them emerge as eventual winners, adding to their grand final in the first season earlier this year.
Wolves and Jets gave their all in the B grade final, fighting tooth and nail to be tied at 2-2 at half time.
After the break the Wolves found some momentum and then defended strongly to hold on to a 4-3 win.
Whitsunday Touch Association representative Bernard Woods said that it was a great end to the season.
“There was some very high quality football played by all teams, with good defence being the determining factor in both games,” he said.
It was also the final night for the junior competition on Monday with the players now progressing into actual games commencing next year.
The club thanked everyone for supporting the junior competition and helping make it a success.
