Students impress at coloured belt grading
A TOTAL of 54 students from both the Cannonvale and Proserpine taekwondo clubs were assessed for their next belt level at the Whitsunday Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan Gup coloured belt grading on Saturday.
There were 22 Little Tigers students aged 4 to 7, 28 juniors aged 7 to 12 and four seniors aged 13 and over with all students successfully passing and advancing to their next level or Gup.
The grading was conducted by head instructor and examiner Vicky Gillam who is a fourth Dan black belt and black belt instructors Jim Hodges, Jarrad Arthur and Bowie Hodges.
All of the students have worked extremely hard to get to this stage in their training and there were some notable achievements on the day.
From the little tigers there was a direct promotion to juniors ninth Gup (yellow belt - 1 stripe) for Sienna Sobott, Katarna Robinson, Lilly Corrie, Zoltan Holeczy, Jack Sobott and Josh Jarvis.
Double promotions for tigers went to Madison Taylor, Josh Krendl, Axel Scudder, Callum Edmondson and Tane Dennison with Nate Nichols achieving a triple promotion.
The best grading awards were presented to white tigers Josh Krend, yellow tigers Nate Nichols, junior belts Sam Cretan and senior belts Gareth O’Sheehy.
