3 peo­ple sent to prison over se­ri­ous as­sault

THREE Whit­sun­day res­i­dents have been jailed af­ter a break and en­ter in Ju­bilee Pocket more than 18 months ago when a man was as­saulted.

The two men and one woman were sen­tenced to pe­ri­ods of im­pris­on­ment in the Bowen District Court last week af­ter the in­ci­dent in April 2012.

At the time of the of­fences, po­lice said the mat­ter was re­lated to a parental cus­tody dis­pute.

It oc­curred at a home in King­fisher Ter­race. The vic­tim was a 33-yearold man and po­lice re­ported that the of­fend­ers were armed with a base­ball bat.

In District Court last week, Carly Buck­ley, 28, was charged with bur­glary by break in com­pany and as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing bod­ily harm, also com­mit­ted in com­pany.

She was sen­tenced to two years im­pris­on­ment, sus­pended af­ter 12 months.

John Ghat­tas, 41, was charged with the same of­fences and also faced an ad­di­tional wil­ful dam­age charge.

He was sen­tenced to two-and-a-half years im­pris­on­ment, sus­pended af­ter 13 months.

oc­ca­sion­ing bod­ily harm.

He was sen­tenced to 18 months im­pris­on­ment, sus­pended af­ter eight months.
