Proser­pine sculp­tor on the small screen

PROSER­PINE sculp­tor Adriaan Vanderlugt capped off an ex­cit­ing year by fea­tur­ing on a tele­vi­sion show on Sun­day evening on TV4ME.

Graeme Steven­son, the pro­ducer of the se­ries Colour in Your Life, in­vited Mr Vanderlugt to be in­ter­viewed for a sculp­ture episode fo­cus­ing on carv­ing wood and stone.

This year he was in­volved in prepa­ra­tions for four pub­lic art ex­hi­bi­tions, which have all hap­pened in re­cent months.

In early Septem­ber, Strand Ephemera was an ex­hi­bi­tion on the beach at the Strand in Townsville and 31 sculp­tures were fea­tured.

Then on Septem­ber 6, the crew of Pos­sum Magic the Mu­si­cal launched the five wildlife sculp­tures com­mis­sioned for the out­side of the Mackay En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre.

The sculp­tures were made from cam­phor lau­rel from a dy­ing tree at the Green­mount Homestead in Walk­er­ston.

Then, down on the beach at Cur­rumbin on the Gold Coast, the SWELL Sculp­ture Fes­ti­val fea­tured 53 sculp­tures by Aus­tralian and in­ter­na­tional artists and was seen by 200,000 visi­tors.

At the end of Oc­to­ber, his sculp­ture Fish Scales was cu­rated into Art with Al­ti­tude, a weekend Art Fes­ti­val at Sky­gate at the Bris­bane Air­port.

The tele­vi­sion shoot hap­pened only just a few weeks ago and fo­cuses on demon­stra­tions, with some very in­for­ma­tive ban­ter with the pre­sen­ter, Graeme Steven­son.
