Local riders recognised at motorcycling state awards
WHITSUNDAY Dirt Riders Andy McLiesh and Hunter Penhallurick brought home a total of seven awards from Motorcycling Queensland’s annual awards night held at the Brisbane Convention Centre last Friday.
Hunter was awarded 2013 Queensland state champion for 65cc class junior long track and 65cc class junior dirt track.
He was also chosen for the Matthew Kuhne Perseverance Award which is recognition for showing commitment, dedication and perseverance towards motorcycle racing.
Local star McLiesh achieved four awards including state champion N3 for supermoto, national champion for S2 supermoto, 2014 number two plate recipient for supermoto and 2014 number two plate recipient senior long track.
They then competed in the 40th anniversary Glenn Fien North Brisbane Cup on Saturday.
It was a fantastic night of racing as they got to meet and rub shoulders with some of the best in the business who were coming back to race where their careers started.
The likes of Jason Crump, Troy Bayliss, Paul Caslick, Chris Vermeulen, Gary McCoy and Darcy Ward were among the epic line-up of riders.
Hunter competed in four events taking out second place in the 65cc and 85cc classes.
He also achieved second in the 85cc class team challenge, but as he was battling it out for first position in the 65cc he crashed out.
Showing more determination than ever Hunter came back with a vengeance to finish in fourth place.
McLiesh competed in the supermoto and senior pro 250 taking out first place for both events and third in the senior pro open.
Georgia Murray went up against some stiff competition with five women competing in the senior women’s pro open and women’s challenge.
She put in a great effort to place second in both events.
