Lo­cal rid­ers recog­nised at mo­tor­cy­cling state awards

WHIT­SUN­DAY Dirt Rid­ers Andy McLiesh and Hunter Pen­hal­lurick brought home a to­tal of seven awards from Mo­tor­cy­cling Queens­land’s an­nual awards night held at the Bris­bane Con­ven­tion Cen­tre last Fri­day.

Hunter was awarded 2013 Queens­land state cham­pion for 65cc class ju­nior long track and 65cc class ju­nior dirt track.

He was also cho­sen for the Matthew Kuhne Per­se­ver­ance Award which is recog­ni­tion for show­ing com­mit­ment, ded­i­ca­tion and per­se­ver­ance to­wards mo­tor­cy­cle rac­ing.

Lo­cal star McLiesh achieved four awards in­clud­ing state cham­pion N3 for su­permoto, na­tional cham­pion for S2 su­permoto, 2014 num­ber two plate re­cip­i­ent for su­permoto and 2014 num­ber two plate re­cip­i­ent se­nior long track.

They then com­peted in the 40th an­niver­sary Glenn Fien North Bris­bane Cup on Satur­day.

It was a fan­tas­tic night of rac­ing as they got to meet and rub shoul­ders with some of the best in the busi­ness who were com­ing back to race where their ca­reers started.

The likes of Ja­son Crump, Troy Bayliss, Paul Caslick, Chris Ver­meulen, Gary McCoy and Darcy Ward were among the epic line-up of rid­ers.

Hunter com­peted in four events tak­ing out sec­ond place in the 65cc and 85cc classes.

He also achieved sec­ond in the 85cc class team chal­lenge, but as he was bat­tling it out for first po­si­tion in the 65cc he crashed out.

Show­ing more de­ter­mi­na­tion than ever Hunter came back with a vengeance to fin­ish in fourth place.

McLiesh com­peted in the su­permoto and se­nior pro 250 tak­ing out first place for both events and third in the se­nior pro open.

Ge­or­gia Mur­ray went up against some stiff com­pe­ti­tion with five women com­pet­ing in the se­nior women’s pro open and women’s chal­lenge.

She put in a great ef­fort to place sec­ond in both events.
