Lo­cal youth ex­press emo­tions at art ex­hi­bi­tion

THE ex­quis­ite art­works of lo­cal youth where the high­light of the Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil’s highly an­tic­i­pated Art for Heal­ing ex­hi­bi­tion held at the Proser­pine En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre.

The ex­hi­bi­tion was opened by Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil­lor John Collins last Thurs­day and show­cased the works of 15 to 21-yearold artists from through­out the Whit­sun­days.

Cr Collins said the qual­ity of work was in­sight­ful and showed that the Art for Heal­ing im­proved not only qual­ity of life, but was ef­fec­tive in re­duc­ing pain, fa­tigue, stress and in­creased cog­ni­tive abil­i­ties and emo­tional well­be­ing.

“Some­times when words are not enough, im­ages and sym­bols can tell our sto­ries. In telling th­ese sto­ries we find path­ways to well­ness, re­cov­ery and trans­for­ma­tion,” he said.

Cr Collins thanked Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil’s youth ser­vices of­fi­cer Anna Smith for co-or­di­nat­ing the suc­cess­ful ex­hi­bi­tion.

To­day is the fi­nal day the ex­hi­bi­tion will be on show at the Proser­pine En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre.

Youth art classes will be held again next year.
