Local youth express emotions at art exhibition
THE exquisite artworks of local youth where the highlight of the Whitsunday Regional Council’s highly anticipated Art for Healing exhibition held at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre.
The exhibition was opened by Whitsunday Regional Councillor John Collins last Thursday and showcased the works of 15 to 21-yearold artists from throughout the Whitsundays.
Cr Collins said the quality of work was insightful and showed that the Art for Healing improved not only quality of life, but was effective in reducing pain, fatigue, stress and increased cognitive abilities and emotional wellbeing.
“Sometimes when words are not enough, images and symbols can tell our stories. In telling these stories we find pathways to wellness, recovery and transformation,” he said.
Cr Collins thanked Whitsunday Regional Council’s youth services officer Anna Smith for co-ordinating the successful exhibition.
Today is the final day the exhibition will be on show at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre.
Youth art classes will be held again next year.
