Bowls sea­sons wraps up with pre­sen­ta­tion

BOWLS is now fin­ished for this year and all of the ladies were in­vited to a Christ­mas break up at the RSL last Tues­day.

At last week’s fi­nal com­mit­tee meet­ing for the year, it was de­cided that they will re­turn to Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon bowls on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 19 with the of­fi­cial open­ing for the year be­ing on Wed­nes­day, March 5.

Com­pe­ti­tion nom­i­na­tion sheets are on the board at the club.

Nom­i­na­tions for sin­gles, pairs and fours close on Wed­nes­day, March 5, at 4pm with the draw be­ing done for th­ese com­pe­ti­tions be­ing done that af­ter­noon.

All other events will close a lit­tle later as there isn’t the need to have them com­pleted quite as early.

Mixed com­pe­ti­tion was com­pleted this last weekend ahead of the pre­sen­ta­tion day. On Satur­day morn­ing, Wayne Han­d­ley de­feated Ma­ree Daf­fara 25-9 in the fi­nal of the mixed sin­gles.

On Sun­day morn­ing Martin Corr, Joan McGrath and Shane Spann de­feated Fay­lene Cooke, David Cooke and Wayne Han­d­ley 21-13 in the fi­nal of the mixed triples.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon, there were 22 play­ers for so­cial bowls be­fore the pre­sen­ta­tion.

Dar­rell Pat­ullo, Arthur Wil­liams and Kevin Thoro­good de­feated Kevin Duell, Noelie Dibben and Heather Pat­ullo 14-13, Trudy Hanne, Heather Brown and Scott Kin­n­ear de­feated Fran Porter, Dot Hin­schen and Shane Kin­n­ear 15-6 and Dale Haack and Sandy Daf­fara de­feated Philip Brown and Ma­ree Daf­fara 21-13.

In the other games Car­lie Al­bert­son, Reg Rus­sell and Michael Kin­n­ear de­feated John Lah­ney, Gail Camm and Ross Reville 18-8.

The Sun­day tro­phy was won by the team with the clos­est win­ning score and that was Kevin Thoro­good’s team.

Brian Cooke, club pa­tron, was wel­comed to the club to present the badges for 2013 club com­pe­ti­tion.

Im­me­di­ate past pres­i­dent of Proser­pine Ladies Bowl­ing Club, Ma­ree Daf­fara, pre­sented pres­i­dent Philip Brown of Proser­pine Bowls Club with a cheque of $5000, a dona­tion which the ladies Club make to the mens’ each year.

Club cham­pi­onship sin­gles was won by Barry Saroglia with Wayne Han­d­ley as run­ner-up, club cham­pi­onship pairs was won by Michael Kin­n­ear and Grahame Kin­n­ear (Shane Spann play­ing sub) while Ben Cutrone and Scott Kin­n­ear were run­ners-up and the club cham­pi­onship triples were won by Dean Love­lock, Scott Kin­n­ear and Ben Cutrone with Shane Kin­n­ear, Todd Leys and Scott Hamil­ton this year’s run­ners-up.

Fours was won by Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia while Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton, Michael Kin­n­ear and Grahame Kin­n­ear were run­ners-up, 2 bowl triples was won by Barry Saroglia, Jonathan Bye (sub Michael Kin­n­ear) and Scott Kin­n­ear with last year’s win­ners Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton and Wayne Han­d­ley in sec­ond.

Se­nior sin­gles was won by Reg Rus­sell with Kevin Thoro­good in sec­ond, B sin­gles won by Arthur Wil­liams with Todd Leys run­ner-up.

B Pairs was won by Matthew Camm and Dale Haack, beat­ing Ted Cullen and Steve Lawrie.

In the mixed com­pe­ti­tion Wayne Han­d­ley won the mixed sin­gles with Ma­ree Daf­fara be­ing the run­ner-up, mixed pairs was won by Joan McGrath and Shane Spann with Dot Hin­schen and Barry Saroglia as run­ners-up and mixed triples was won by Martin Corr, Joan McGrath and Shane Spann with Fay­lene Cooke, David Cooke and Wayne Han­d­ley the run­ners-up.

The mixed fours was won by Philip Brown, Heather Pat­ullo, Heather Brown and Wayne Han­d­ley with Janet Mor­timer, Fran Porter, John Hen­der­son and Ross Reville this year’s run­ners-up.

There will be a work­ing bee on the Val De Boni Green on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 21 to be­gin about 7am.
