Bowls seasons wraps up with presentation
BOWLS is now finished for this year and all of the ladies were invited to a Christmas break up at the RSL last Tuesday.
At last week’s final committee meeting for the year, it was decided that they will return to Wednesday afternoon bowls on Wednesday, February 19 with the official opening for the year being on Wednesday, March 5.
Competition nomination sheets are on the board at the club.
Nominations for singles, pairs and fours close on Wednesday, March 5, at 4pm with the draw being done for these competitions being done that afternoon.
All other events will close a little later as there isn’t the need to have them completed quite as early.
Mixed competition was completed this last weekend ahead of the presentation day. On Saturday morning, Wayne Handley defeated Maree Daffara 25-9 in the final of the mixed singles.
On Sunday morning Martin Corr, Joan McGrath and Shane Spann defeated Faylene Cooke, David Cooke and Wayne Handley 21-13 in the final of the mixed triples.
On Sunday afternoon, there were 22 players for social bowls before the presentation.
Darrell Patullo, Arthur Williams and Kevin Thorogood defeated Kevin Duell, Noelie Dibben and Heather Patullo 14-13, Trudy Hanne, Heather Brown and Scott Kinnear defeated Fran Porter, Dot Hinschen and Shane Kinnear 15-6 and Dale Haack and Sandy Daffara defeated Philip Brown and Maree Daffara 21-13.
In the other games Carlie Albertson, Reg Russell and Michael Kinnear defeated John Lahney, Gail Camm and Ross Reville 18-8.
The Sunday trophy was won by the team with the closest winning score and that was Kevin Thorogood’s team.
Brian Cooke, club patron, was welcomed to the club to present the badges for 2013 club competition.
Immediate past president of Proserpine Ladies Bowling Club, Maree Daffara, presented president Philip Brown of Proserpine Bowls Club with a cheque of $5000, a donation which the ladies Club make to the mens’ each year.
Club championship singles was won by Barry Saroglia with Wayne Handley as runner-up, club championship pairs was won by Michael Kinnear and Grahame Kinnear (Shane Spann playing sub) while Ben Cutrone and Scott Kinnear were runners-up and the club championship triples were won by Dean Lovelock, Scott Kinnear and Ben Cutrone with Shane Kinnear, Todd Leys and Scott Hamilton this year’s runners-up.
Fours was won by Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kinnear and Barry Saroglia while Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamilton, Michael Kinnear and Grahame Kinnear were runners-up, 2 bowl triples was won by Barry Saroglia, Jonathan Bye (sub Michael Kinnear) and Scott Kinnear with last year’s winners Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamilton and Wayne Handley in second.
Senior singles was won by Reg Russell with Kevin Thorogood in second, B singles won by Arthur Williams with Todd Leys runner-up.
B Pairs was won by Matthew Camm and Dale Haack, beating Ted Cullen and Steve Lawrie.
In the mixed competition Wayne Handley won the mixed singles with Maree Daffara being the runner-up, mixed pairs was won by Joan McGrath and Shane Spann with Dot Hinschen and Barry Saroglia as runners-up and mixed triples was won by Martin Corr, Joan McGrath and Shane Spann with Faylene Cooke, David Cooke and Wayne Handley the runners-up.
The mixed fours was won by Philip Brown, Heather Patullo, Heather Brown and Wayne Handley with Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, John Henderson and Ross Reville this year’s runners-up.
There will be a working bee on the Val De Boni Green on Saturday, December 21 to begin about 7am.
