Crack down on phones
OFFICER in Charge of Whitsunday Police, Acting Senior Sergeant Barry Haran, is warning motorists that traffic patrols will be concentrating on mobile phone use over the coming weeks. Unmarked cars will patrol the area looking for drivers using their phones. The offence carries a fine of $330. Act Snr Sgt Haran said hands-free kits were comparatively inexpensive.
“Wedging the phone between your head and shoulder does not count as hands free. Don’t say you weren’t warned,” he said.
