More touch teams in 2014
THE 2014 season is looking good for Whitsunday touch, with more teams signing up for the Monday night competition, that will begin with a warm-up scratch match next Monday, 10 February.
The sign on took place on Monday night, and some new faces enteried teams to challenge competition stalwarts like Ray White, Amalgamated and The Wolves.
A mixture of men and women from the marine scene have entered their team, The Boaties, and Nauticool are also a new team. Rumours are JJ Richards and Powered by Murphy may be entering a team, looking to challenge the existing champions. With about seven or eight teams entered in both grades, organisers are looking forward to kick-off on Monday, 17 February. Anyone interested in playing, should come along to the warmup matches this Monday from 6pm.
All games will be played on the top (AFL) field while the bottom field recovers from being top dressed in 2013. The bottom field is looking the best it has in years, and to ensure it will be a top field for the 2014 season, a working bee will be held this Sunday, 9 February from 3.30pm. Many hands make light work, and with good numbers the work clearing the field of weeds should take minimum time. Please bring gloves, and weeding tools to help.
Any players between the ages of 13-16 years old can join in the junior touch competition, running from August to December. The committee will also run Austouch for under-13’s in the last term of 2014, after the successful introduction of the program in the last months of 2013.
The club’s AGM will be at 7pm on Monday, February 17 at the clubhouse, and new committee members are welcome to nominate.
