Speedy arrival as baby born at home
“EVERONE told us that our second pregnancy would be quicker, but we never thought it would be that quick.”
These were the words of Amanda and John Holden who were surprised with the speedy arrival of their second child Mynky Ella last week.
Mynky, who wasn’t due until February 20, made her way into the world at the couple’s home in the Baybreeze Apartments, Cannonvale at 2.10pm on Monday, February 3.
About 11am, Amanda started having contractions five minutes apart when she had her first thoughts of “ok this is going to happen”.
She immediately called her husband John to come home from work.
By the time he got home, the contractions had stopped.
That was short-lived as it was only a couple of hours later that the contractions came on “like a freight train”.
“From the moment we realised she was coming, she was here within four minutes,” Mr Holden said, recalling the moment he ran out onto the balcony yelling “I just delivered my daughter” to the ambulance officers below who had just arrived.
“We arrived at Proserpine Hospital at 2.40pm for a full check-up. We signed ourselves out that night and were home by 7pm with a happy, healthy little girl,” Mr Holden said. The happy couple thanked all involved for responding so quickly and for their ongoing support.
BABY JOY: Amanda and John Holden were delighted at the birth of their beautiful baby girl Mynky Ella Holden on Monday, February 3. Mynky came into the world at 2.10pm, weighing 2.8kg (6lbs 2oz). She is the younger sister to 22-month-old Sunni.
