Barramundi caught in Airlie’s Muddy Bay
THE rockwalls are fishing well now the wind has died down, and the barramundi season has opened again. In particular, there are reports of good size barra being caught off the rockwalls around Muddy Bay and Port of Airlie.
Grunter and mangrove jack are also being caught, and spangled emperor can be found off the sailing club rockwalls.
Spanish mackerel are still being caught around the islands. Hook Passage is proving particularly successful. Try anchoring opposite Hook Island, close to Whitsunday Island and floating live or dead baits in the current.
There are still a lot of bait fish around, including ribbon fish. Ribbon fish make great bait. A good way of catching these is by casting small metal slugs with treble sinkers.

There have not been many catches reported lately at the dam, but this should improve with the full moon over the weekend. The impoundment barra will be fishing well again, and on the bite throughout the night and day.
Try fishing the weed beds around the river course with soft plastics and shallow diving lures.
Also, try trolling the basin with deep diving lures for good results.
There is a lot of fresh water in the rivers after all the rain we’ve had and a lot of the barra have pushed up into the flood plains.
There are lots of crabs around, particularly around the mouth of the river.

Not much to report this week due to the strong winds, however the conditions this weekend look excellent.
The fishing should be good, having had very little pressure over the last month, and while there is a full moon the tide movement will not be too bad.
