Moon to light the way for night race

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

THE Whitsunday Sailing Club will be holding a night race this Saturday, February 15.

The race is the first of the 2014 Whitsunday Ocean Services offshore series, starting at 4.30pm.

The course is yet to be determined by the race committee and will be based on the wind forecast of the day.

If cloud cover is sparse, sailors can look forward to a moonlit evening, following Friday’s full moon.

In last year’s night race, Breakaway (Rob Davis), was the winner in Division 3 ahead of Anthea (Dewi Hughes) and Riff Raff (Dan White).

With Breakaway now sold, WSC sailing development officer Tim Parker said all Division 3 boats were in with a chance to win a prize.

Mr Parker said in Division 2, Bobby D was winner in 2013, “and will be a strong competitor again”.

“Rising Farrst, (Tim Osborne) and Wobbly Boot (Craig Piccinelli), took the minor placings last year and should be out racing again this year, along with Twister (Kevin Fogarty) and Reignition (Charles Wallis),” he said.

“There should be some good competition for the prizes.” For more information or to register for the race, call the Whitsunday Sailing Club on 4946 6138.
