Junior Brahmans ready to hit the field
JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE
MORE than 200 local players signed on for the 2014 season with the Proserpine Whitsunday Junior Rugby League Club on Saturday.
The club is fielding teams from the under-6s through to the under-16s, with many players enjoying the giant inflatable waterslide and sausage sizzle on the day.
Club president Kevin Young was pleased with the turnout, despite the poor weather.
“The draw is still being made but we will potentially have nine different clubs from the Mackay region in the draw,” he said.
“The kids are itching to get back on the field after a couple of months off over the school holidays.”
The first match of the year will be held in Mackay on Saturday, March 22, with the first home game to be played at the Kelsey Creek Sporting Complex in Proserpine on Saturday, March 29.
Training started on Tuesday this week for all age groups.
Young said the under-6s would start training at a later date for their 10 week season.
“A lot of our under-16s players from last year have now progressed to the senior Brahmans and we wish them all good luck,” he said.
“We have a very close relationship with the senior club and it’s great to see our young stars rising through the ranks.” For more information, like the club’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/pwjrl.
