Can­nons fire at State Sprint Cham­pi­onships

SWIM­MERS from the Can­non­vale Can­nons swim­ming club showed they could match it with the best in Queens­land at the 2014 McDon­alds State Sprint Cham­pi­onships held at the Bris­bane Aquatic Cen­tre on the week­end.

The best re­sults for the meet came from team mem­bers Ivan Van Zyl and Dy­lan Bar­beler with Ivan win­ning bronze in the 15-years 50m breast­stroke and Dy­lan tak­ing home sil­ver in the 9-years 50m breast­stroke.

11-year-old An­gus Men­zies was an­other stand­out, mak­ing the fi­nal and fin­ish­ing 10th in the state in the 11-years 50m breast­stroke.

The team of 11 swim­mers also in­cluded Ainslie Bar­beler, Jordan Men­zies, Sarah and Natalie Milne, Chloe Robert­son, Jack­man Ro­manella and Emma and Kasey Ho­gan.

All swim­mers per­formed well and set per­sonal bests at the meet as they com­peted in a range of events across all strokes.

The Can­nons also had plen- ty of sup­port from the crowd with a large group of par­ents mak­ing the trip to cheer on their kids from the grand­stands.

It was the first state cham­pi­onships for a num­ber of the swim­mers and they were guided by the more ex­pe­ri­enced mem­bers of the team.

The Can­nons were back to train­ing this week as they pre­pare for a busy swim sea­son with meets all over North Queens­land in the com­ing months.
