Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

THE visit to Airlie Beach by high profile celerity couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt last week has created worldwide attention – and this will help our tourism industry in the months and years ahead.

Jolie and Pitt are among the highest profile couples in the world and they were right here in Airlie Beach.

The hype here may have gone for the moment but the attention our town received internationally will be remembered.

Fans won’t forget that Brad and Angelina were here.

Some will add Airlie Beach to their itinerary when visiting Australia simply because of that.

When the movie is released, people will remember again.

It will become a talking point when people are planning their holiday.

When the Danish Prince Frederick met Princess Mary in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics, it created a lot of publicity for the pub where they met.

How many people had never heard of the Slip Inn before this meeting?

How many people now know the name of that pub?

Brad and Angelina may not be royalty but don’t underestimate how famous they are.

Their visit was free publicity for our region – and the crew spent money here in town giving our economy a boost for the week.

On another matter...

Congratulations to tourism operator Whitsunday Escape on winning an Australian Tourism Award.

Ocean Rafting and BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday won national awards last year and Whitsunday Escape has come home with the gold trophy this year.

These awards are a great marketing tool and will also help to bring extra visitors to the region.

Well done.
