THE visit to Air­lie Beach by high pro­file celer­ity cou­ple, An­gelina Jolie and Brad Pitt last week has cre­ated world­wide at­ten­tion – and this will help our tourism in­dus­try in the months and years ahead.

Jolie and Pitt are among the high­est pro­file cou­ples in the world and they were right here in Air­lie Beach.

The hype here may have gone for the mo­ment but the at­ten­tion our town re­ceived in­ter­na­tion­ally will be re­mem­bered.

Fans won’t for­get that Brad and An­gelina were here.

Some will add Air­lie Beach to their itin­er­ary when vis­it­ing Aus­tralia sim­ply be­cause of that.

When the movie is re­leased, peo­ple will re­mem­ber again.

It will be­come a talk­ing point when peo­ple are plan­ning their hol­i­day.

When the Dan­ish Prince Fred­er­ick met Princess Mary in Syd­ney dur­ing the 2000 Olympics, it cre­ated a lot of pub­lic­ity for the pub where they met.

How many peo­ple had never heard of the Slip Inn be­fore this meet­ing?

How many peo­ple now know the name of that pub?

Brad and An­gelina may not be roy­alty but don’t un­der­es­ti­mate how fa­mous they are.

Their visit was free pub­lic­ity for our re­gion – and the crew spent money here in town giv­ing our econ­omy a boost for the week.

On an­other mat­ter...

Con­grat­u­la­tions to tourism op­er­a­tor Whit­sun­day Es­cape on win­ning an Aus­tralian Tourism Award.

Ocean Raft­ing and BIG4 Ad­ven­ture Whit­sun­day won na­tional awards last year and Whit­sun­day Es­cape has come home with the gold tro­phy this year.

These awards are a great mar­ket­ing tool and will also help to bring ex­tra visi­tors to the re­gion.
