Council upgrade to public internet access planned
WHITSUNDAY Regional Council has resolved to upgrade its internet services across the region allowing the community and Council staff better access to the worldwide web.
Mayor Jennifer Whitney said Council would upgrade its internet services to allow public WiFi access at the airport and increased internet speeds at the region’s public libraries.
“Before [the] June school holidays, members of the public will be able to access WiFi at the Whitsunday Coast Airport, making their travelling experience through our airport more enjoyable,” she said.
“This upgrade will also vastly increase the internet speed at our libraries in Cannonvale, Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville.”
Cr Whitney said the upgrade would also allow for future public WiFi access in Council’s customer service centres.
She said internet speeds for Council staff at depots and quarries throughout the region would improve, meaning Council would be able to service the community more efficiently.
“This network upgrade is part of Council creating greater efficiencies across all our service delivery areas,” she said.
