Operators ready for tourism exchange
THE inaugural Whitsundays Tourism Exchange will be held in Airlie Beach next Wednesday, February 26, connecting the local tourism industry with a contingent of Australia’s key tourism product buyers.
The one-day event has been organised by Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ). Its purpose is to allow local tourism operators to engage with representatives of key domestic and international travel companies such as Flight Centre.
WMDL’s acting chief executive officer Daryl Hudson said the exchange presented a significant opportunity for the Whitsunday tourism industry and was the first time that WMDL and TEQ had staged such an event in the region.
“A total of 42 local tourism businesses will be attending the exchange, meeting with over 35 key product buyers representing major tour wholesalers and online travel agents,” he said
“Following the event, the product buyers are invited on a two-day familiarisation tour to experience one of Australia’s prime holiday destinations first hand and keep the Whitsundays top of mind.”
Mr Hudson said a pre-workshop was held in Airlie Beach last week to prepare participating operators for the event.
“The workshop was facilitated by Amanda Kruse, a well-respected travel industry professional with over 20 years of industry experience who provided an insight into the domestic distribution system and packaging,” he said.
“Ms Kruse prepared participating tourism businesses with the necessary skills to build trade connections and relationships in preparation [for the exchange].”
